Fraps in Linux?

I was asked to create a video tutorial of how to use the tool i developed in linux. Well there are
many softwares in windows which allow you to create a video of what ever is done by the user. For
instance Fraps is a popular software which can be used to capture the game play as videos. But i did not know of any such software for linux. I started hunting for it and i was exited to find that i did not need a software for doing it.. I could do it myself... i found a wonderful tutorial about making a video of the screen capture. It took me only a few minutes to get my video done :) I think this would be a very useful tutorial for all those linux lovers who envied people presenting their windows tools in the form of videos.

After i created a video using this method, i realized that it was too slow, actually my prof did not like the video. So i started searching for alternatives. That is when i came across tools like vnc2swf, DemoRecorder, etc. These tools work just fine if you want to record whats' being done in normal widgets... in the sence the windows which do not use OpenGL. So the next best thing was another command which can grab the screenshot in less time. 'xwnd' is the answer. This is a command which comes along with the X server tools. It can save the desktop view in a file in an internal format ".xwd" so instead of "import" i started used this new command. I reduced my screen resolution to 640x480 and recorded the desktop view. The final output was a better, smooth video of the demo.

I guesswink serves the purpose of capturing video/screenshots in linux, in the edit mode you can , add explanations boxes,buttons etc..

The point is most of these softwares work fine on normal "widgets" but they dont' work once an OpenGL window is to be recorded. I havent tried this software but i doubt if it works for capturing OpenGL windows as well.

Wink works just fine for Open GL windows. Its just that it randomly changes speed. Not good. I can't find a smooth solution to this, but i think recording via VNC has possibilities (If i forced it to update regardless of weather it thinks that it needs to update or not it would most definitely work)

Id you have Fraps downloaded, try running it on Linux with Wine. Several tutorials and reviews are online about wine, but the bases of it is it allows you to run the windows program on your Linux OS. This is very helpful for those programs you "miss" from windows OS.

Flash animations in GoDot Engine

If you have not heard about GoDot game engine,.. you should check it out right away.. godotengine.org Last time, i wrote a blog post about my experience making a simple physics game to GoDot Engine. Though there are a bunch of free options announced during the GDC this year, i thought ill' contribute to the engine. The one piece that is most important for game dev is the pipeline for the engine. One of the most common tools used for 2D animations is Flash. I have been using a library called Super Animation for almost all the games we've made for android at TMG. It's  a  free tool which lets you convert swf files to .sam files. Vehicle Physics (Godot 2D)

I've always been fascinated with the vehicle physics used in games. I played so many racing games / the hill climb games and every single time i would wonder wow that must be really hard to do. Thanks to the new generation of game development tools, developing physics based games has become almost a second nature to most people. I didn't want to be left out so i gave it a shot.. I tried setting up vehicle physics in GoDot Engine for a 2D vehicle. Here is what the vehicle scene looks like.. 2D vehicle setup in GoDot As you can see the body collision shape is not right but the rest of the stuff just works. The idea is simple think of what parts move along with the body vs what doesn't. I was kinda stuck setting up the pinJoint2D in GoDot, it actually clearly takes two nodes under the properties.
